Explanation
The implantation of a hip prosthesis consists in replacing the joint surfaces with worn cartilage by artificial surfaces. It may affect both the femur, the acetabulum of the pelvic bone, or both.
Hip replacement surgery was performed for the first time in 1960 and it is one of the most successful surgeries in medicine. Since 1960, improvements in surgical techniques and joint replacement technology have increased greatly the effectiveness of total hip replacement.
Types of prostheses
We use next-generation hip prosthesis made of cobalt-chrome metal alloys with a titanium coating to ensure a better adaptation to the bone. They are cutting-edge prostheses that meet the highest quality assurance. The range includes from the classical polyethylene metal prothesis to the most sophisticated of next-generation ceramic.
Results
In the last 35 years of experience placing prostheses, our results have been optimal. The indices measuring process excellence (infection rates, average stays or readmissions) and the functional outcomes and satisfaction of our customers guarantee the excellent support of our team of traumatologists and orthopedic surgeons.
Process duration: 11 days
During five days, the patient will be hospitalised in the Mallorca Health Care, once discharged, the patient will stay for 6 days in a hotel of choice, where the patient will follow a process of personalised physiotherapy. You will come to the Mallorca Health Care hospital’s Rehabilitation facilities or, if required, the rehabilitation team will pick you up at your hotel.
Surgery candidates
Anyone without a severe major disease, after passing the corresponding evaluation by our orthopedic surgeons and traumatologists, can undergo a total hip replacement, except those who do not meet the criteria recommended by the International Scientific Societies.
When is surgery recommended
People who benefit from replacement surgery often have:
- Hip pain limiting their daily activities, such as walking or bending.
